Wisconsin Winter

All is still and dark,

Yet bright.

Out my door, the moon in flight.

Fall is gone and winter is here;

The air so cold, so sharp,

but clear.

No leaves on trees,

and certainly no flowers;

although a few birds

to brighten my hours.

The grass is not green;

no mower is seen.

Just a blanket of white,

but oh, what a sight!

Tiny crystals that sparkle

and gleam,

It's enough to make a snowman beam.

The day is short,

and the months move slowly,

I think I'll embrace

the spring more wholly.

Yes, winter will finally end;

A cold comfort, I know, yet friend.
